Turn Your Unused Kegerator Into an Unparalleled Amenity for 2026
As 2025 winds down and budgeting season ramps up, multifamily communities and office spaces across the country are finalizing their improvement plans for the new year. One increasingly common question on these lists is: How do we finally put our kegerator to use?
Installed with the best intentions—to elevate tenant experience, stay competitive in the amenity wars, justify higher rents, or create social, collaborative environments—most kegerators never pour a single drink. And without being used, they deliver zero value to residents, employees, or the property’s marketing efforts.
Why does this happen? Usually for two big reasons:
1. No one knows how to operate a kegerator
Most people, including property and office managers, have no idea how to tap a keg or run a kegerator.
Where do you buy kegs? What gas do you need? What happens when something breaks? None of that is covered in standard training, so the kegerator ends up collecting dust.
2. Liability and cost concerns
Even when a team does know how to operate the system, it’s often too risky or expensive to keep it flowing:
- Alcohol with no controls creates liability around underage access and overconsumption.
- Non-alcoholic beverages get over-poured or taken in bulk, quickly driving up costs.
The result? A great amenity that never gets used.
The Solution: Retrofit Your Kegerator With Table Tap Technology
To make a kegerator a practical, safe, and cost-controlled amenity, it needs proper monitoring and access control. Table Tap’s retrofit solution brings exactly that—transforming an unused showpiece into a modern, controlled, and trackable self-pour system.

Here’s how the process works:
Step 1: Identify Your Existing Equipment + Desired Beverages
We begin by confirming the kegerator’s make and model, typically found on the manufacturer label inside the cooler. Photos help us determine the number of taps and whether additional draft components are needed.
Next, we discuss what beverages you want to offer. Kegerators can serve beer, seltzers, wine, cocktails, cold brew, tea, and kombucha or any other beverage that comes in a keg.
Keep in mind:
- Beverage type may be limited by your current equipment
- Different beverages require different gases (CO₂ for beer/seltzers/kombucha; nitrogen for wine/cold brew)
If you need help sourcing kegs or gas, Table Tap will connect you with local suppliers.
Step 2: Assess Millwork + Space Requirements
A Table Tap system includes a server, router, access point, and tap controllers—all of which must be installed outside the keg cooler, usually in a nearby cabinet at least 18” wide. If no adjacent millwork is available, we can find alternative solutions for where to mount this equipment.
If your kegerator sits beneath a counter, we will also confirm necessary clearances.
Any countertop drilling must be done by a third-party stone cutter; we coordinate with them on site to ensure precision and protect your millwork.

Step 3: Confirm Power and Internet Access
Our system requires:
- Power (shared with the kegerator or on a separate circuit—separate is preferred)
- Internet (hardwired ethernet is ideal, but wireless options available)
If your property can’t run a new data line, we can install a wireless bridge solution. Hardwired connections are cheaper and more reliable, so we always recommend getting a quote before ruling it out.

Step 4: Onsite Installation + Training
Once everything is prepared, we send a trained technician from our Atlanta headquarters to your property. They will:
- Install all hardware
- Test the system thoroughly
- Train your team on system use and basic kegerator operation
- Provide user guides and ongoing remote support
No kegerator yet? No problem. Table Tap offers turnkey packages that include both the kegerator and the monitor and control technology, with guidance on integrating it into existing millwork—or choosing a freestanding option.
What the Experience Looks Like for Residents or Employees

Once your system is live:
- Users scan an RFID card to activate a tap
- Cards are issued only to approved residents/employees
- Daily pour limits prevent overuse and reset automatically
- Tap schedules control availability by day or hour
This ensures safe, controlled dispensing—of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages—while keeping operating costs predictable.
Transform an Underused Amenity Into a Highlight of Your Property
After a Table Tap installation, your once-unused kegerator becomes:
- A showcase amenity for tours
- A high-value perk for existing tenants
- A community builder that boosts engagement
- A competitive differentiator for your property
Don’t let another year go by with a kegerator that never gets used. If you’re ready to retrofit your existing system or install a brand-new turnkey solution, reach out to Table Tap today and turn an underperforming amenity into a focal point of your community or office space.
